Port O'Connor Fishing Report, July 3, 2006
“Pick Your Window”
The title of this report would sum up fishing around the weather of late. We’ve got another “sit and spin” low pressure system hugging the coast and that’s made for some aggressive fishing tactics. Fortunately, the windows have been open for the dawn patrol and we are making quick work of the fishing. We have been catching full limits to near limits before the weather catches up with us around 8:30 – 9:00am. That makes for some aggressive approaches and bump and move tactics intercepting the fish as quickly as possible. We are fishing live Croaker freelined over shell among concentrations of active bait in San Antonio Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay. No bait activity, no fish.
The bays are holding up exceptionally well given the weather and the fish are definitely on a “feed” during this latest system. Give us a little break in the weather and I think July and August will go down as the two best months this year.
